Andorra

Welcome to Andorra, a small country on the border of Spain and France. Although the country is only 181 square miles (468 square kilometers), it is full of beautiful landscapes waiting to be explored. Due to its’ location amongst the great Pyrenees Mountains, the principality has only a small local airport and is best visited by car. If you are visiting Barcelona, Andorra is a relaxing 2.5 hour drive and makes for a great side trip. I suggest spending at least 3 days here to fully experience this quaint country. Andorra is also an easy 3 hour drive from Toulouse, France if you are coming from the north.

The capital of Andorra is Andorra la Vella (literally translates to the city of Andorra). The city is located in a picturesque valley where urban skyscrapers, Romanesque architecture (some from the 11th & 12th centuries) & the impressive mountains convene in magnificence. Andorra is famous for its’ low tax rates and duty-free shopping so Andorra la Vella is a great place for retail therapy. This is a beautiful, clean city with many world class restaurants and stores where you can treat yourself to perfume, clothing and leather goods. It is also very walkable making it a great city to wander and get lost in.

Andorra has 300 square kilometers of mountains that are covered in snow between December and April making it an ideal location for skiing and snowboarding. Given the small size of the country, it’s easy to experience more than one ski resort in a trip if desired. Other unique winter-based activities available include ice-diving, snowmobile riding or even building an igloo.

After a day on the slopes, treat your tired muscles to the thermal baths at Andorra la Vella’s Caldea. As one of Europe’s largest spa resorts, Caldea offers an impressive 6,000 square meters of baths. It has facilities suitable for both families and those who prefer adults-only experiences. Beyond the thermal baths, Caldea offers a multitude of spa treatments such as massage, facials, Turkish steam baths, saunas and more. There are even restaurants on site if you want to dedicate your day to total self-care.
